Why Locals Love Sawasdee Thai Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of West Bloomfield Township, Sawasdee Thai Restaurant offers an authentic taste of Thailand that is both rich in tradition and vibrant in flavor. This beloved Thai restaurant is renowned for its genuine cuisine, crafted with care and a deep respect for the delicate balance of spice, sweetness, and tang that defines classic Thai dishes.
The menu features a delightful array of options that cater to seafood lovers and noodle enthusiasts alike. Seafood aficionados will be drawn to the Seafood Curry, where succulent shrimp, tender squid, and fresh bamboo strips mingle in a fragrant curry sauce enhanced with basil and bell peppers. Equally inviting is the Ginger Shrimp, boasting jumbo shrimp stir-fried with crisp green onions, aromatic ginger, and colorful bell peppers in a savory brown sauce that excites the palate. For those who crave a medley of flavors and textures, the Seafood Combination delivers a perfectly executed harmony of shrimp, squid, imitation crab, napa cabbage, broccoli, and an array of garden-fresh vegetables, all enveloped in a rich brown sauce.
Noodle lovers will find comfort and excitement in dishes such as the classic Pad Thai, expertly stir-fried with green onions, bean sprouts, tofu, egg, and topped with crunchy peanuts—available in both its traditional form and a unique curry-infused variant. Another must-try is the Pad See Ew, where wide noodles entwine with crisp broccoli and egg, seasoned in a delicately sweet soy sauce for a soul-warming experience.
Appetizers here set the tone for the meal with fresh, flavorful bites. The Fresh Rolls, wrapped in translucent rice paper and filled with bright, crisp vegetables and your choice of chicken or shrimp, provide a refreshing start. The Appetizer Platter, featuring chicken satay, spring rolls, dumplings, and crab rangoons, offers a perfect sampler to share and discover multiple flavors in one sitting.
One of the most striking aspects of dining at Sawasdee is the consistent praise for the freshness and vibrancy of the food. Regular guests, like Trinity Ureste, celebrate the “fresh, delicious” offerings that keep them returning every other week. The restaurant’s hot and sour soup, in particular, garners enthusiastic honors as “the best” among local favorites. Diners also commend the attentive service and thoughtful preparation that underlines each dish.
While the culinary experience takes center stage, the atmosphere contributes a warm and inviting backdrop. Though some guests hope for a contemporary update in décor and music, many appreciate the cozy, laid-back vibe that creates an excellent setting for a casual date night or family dinner. It’s a place where comfort meets authenticity, making guests feel welcomed and valued with every visit.
The passion behind Sawasdee Thai is embodied in the hands and expertise of owner David, a second-generation chef hailing from Laos. His secret to authentic taste lies in special spices flown in from Florida, adding a depth and complexity that distinguish Sawasdee’s dishes from typical fare.
For those seeking an authentic Thai dining experience in West Bloomfield, Sawasdee Thai Restaurant is more than just a meal — it’s a flavorful journey into the heart of Thailand’s culinary heritage, marked by fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and a heartfelt welcome that will linger long after the last bite.

Incredible! This food is fresh, delicious and comes out amazing! I’d say i’m a regular and eat here almost every other week. Best food, very reasonable pricing! This place is a gem! My boyfriend said “This sesame chicken is as good as winning the lottery!” The hot and sour soup is my favorite and I get it every time. Enjoy.

I ordered the Pad Kow (medium spice) and it was absolutely fantastic—full of flavor, perfectly cooked, and just the right level of heat. My date had the Curry Fried Rice, and it was just as delicious, rich and aromatic with amazing seasoning. On top of the great food, the atmosphere really made the evening special. The music added a warm, inviting vibe that made us want to linger and enjoy the night. Sawasdee is definitely a spot we’ll be coming back to for authentic Thai food and a great dining experience!

The food is amazing. Best Hot & Sour Soup I’ve ever had. The Fresh Rolls are crisp full of flavor. I had the Pad Thai which was the best I’ve found in the area so far. And our waitress was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere could use a little work. The decor and music need to be updated. But the food is second to none

Great service, beautiful restaurant, good food. I was in the mood for Thai food, and I'm so grateful this place is so close to home. I ordered pad Thai and crab rangoon. While it wasn't the best pad thai I've had, the food was hearty and made exactly as I'd ordered it. What I lived the most was the beautiful interior of the restaurant. I'll be sure to come back to dine in and order something else.

I was on assignment to take some pics of their dishes. I also had the opportunity to speak with David who is the new owner. He knows thai dishes very well and is 2nd generation from Laos. He has special spices that cannot be grown here, flown in from Florida. The dishes are authentic Thai. Even though we all recognize the dishes, the difference is that they are more flavorful than most Thai restaurants in the metro area. I have been to many Thai restaurants and I rate this amongst the better ones. The Tom Yum Gai was the best thai soup I have had and the chicken sate is so flavorful. I highly recommend you stop into this West Bloomfield location and taste the deliciousness. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

I’ve gotten the chicken pad Thai here a couple times now and it’s been delicious and consistent both times. The portions feel just right, I don’t feel overfilled and don’t feel like it’s too little. Very flavorful and juicy. I’ve gotten mild both times and that gives me just the right amount of kick. Definitely my new go to spot if I’m craving Thai

The flavors were undeniably authentic in some dishes. The Tom Yum Soup had the perfect balance of sourness and spice, with fresh ingredients like lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves shining through. L The ambiance needs improvement and not inviting, The staff was friendly and eager to assist, though their attentiveness was somewhat inconsistent. Some dishes fell short of expectations. The red Curry, for instance, was overly sweet and lacked the depth of flavor one associates with a good Thai curry.
